Regret

His father stood at the door, knocking. He could hear music; he knew his son was home, but no one answered. The father tried calling his son’s phone, but his son declined the call. The father then sent a text, no reply. A week later, the father tried again. This time, he left a note saying, “Call, I love you!” As before, no response. Week after week, month after month, the father went to his son. His last visit ripped his heart out. An envelope was on his son’s door. It was addressed to the father. Tears rolled down the father’s face as he read the note inside. “I’m not interested in you. Please stop bothering me and go away! I don’t need your opinion on anything. I can make my own choices!”

Years passed, and the son grew more reckless. The sins of his lifestyle took his health. The doctors could do no more. It was just a short while till his life would end. He laid in the bed staring at the wind in the tree’s. The son’s thoughts were on his father; missing him and wishing for one last moment to say goodbye and I’m sorry. He tried to call him but the number was no longer active. He knew he couldn’t go to his fathers but maybe a friend would bring him. Calling the only friend he had, he asked him to go to fetch him.

The clock hands moved slowly! The son tried to sleep but his thoughts were only on his father. Hours later his friend returned alone.

“Where is my dad?” asked the son.

“No one knows, this is the last thing anyone heard from him. The people who bought his house said he asked them to give it to you. If you came looking for him!”

“I waited and waited but you never came. I guess you were to busy with living your life. You didn’t have time for a relationship with me! After a point I knew that I wasn’t going to be part of your life. You had more important relationships and I was not one of them. We’ll see each other again one day. I miss you my child!”

You may think you'll never regret ignoring the father. But, don’t wait to late to realize it! One last breath or one last heartbeat is all it takes to make regret eternal.

Why are you running from me?
